World’s Largest Cave Passage

There’s a jungle inside Vietnam’s mammoth cavern. A skyscraper could fit too. Hang Son Doong, or “mountain river cave,” is in a remote part of central Vietnam. Hidden in rugged Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park near the border with Laos, the cave is part of a network of 150 or so caves, many still not surveyed, in the Annamite Mountains. You can read the full story of the cave explorers expedition here.

The fact that wizard law enforcement found a dude’s finger and immediately closed the investigation, declared him dead, and concluded that the only possible explanation for why they only found a finger was that he was killed so hard that the rest of him was obliterated kind of speaks volumes about why nobody followed up when the genocidal serial killer just vanished.

The Ministry of Magic is fucking useless.

"Beauty is rarely soft or consolatory. Quite the contrary. Genuine beauty is always quite alarming."
Donna Tartt, The Secret History
"We’ve tried to make Capitalism work, with good and humane Labour governments, and we haven’t succeeded; because it can’t work! Because it rests on injustice, lives on inequalities, and if you try to modify them then they turn on you and cut back your gains, and throw you back to where you started."
Tony Benn (via baeddelaire)
